All our walking holidays are graded so there’s something to suit everyone, from on-foot sightseers and hikers to mountain peak baggers! We want you to have the best holiday experience possible, and choosing the most comfortable level of walking for you is a vital part of making your holiday a success - for you and your companions.

To help you decide what’s right for you we’ve grouped our walking grades into four categories: Leisurely; Moderate; Energetic and Challenging. The grades within these categories indicate the specific pace and terrain you should expect on your chosen holiday and the personal fitness required, so you can be sure it’s right for you.
Where a holiday is graded with two symbols, for example C/C+, this means that there are mixed levels of walking. With Sightseeing walking holidays the first symbol is the dominant grade of the holiday.

LEISURELY
These indicate our easier walking grades, where holidays are at a gentler pace, with only an average fitness required. You’ll enjoy days out on lower hill slopes, distinct coastal and valley tracks and paths.
E – Terrain easy
Daily walks are normally between 5 and 10 miles and include inclines of generally under 1000ft (300m). There’s also likely to be some slower paced sightseeing involved. Expect 3 hours walking a day, with a maximum of 5 hours walking on any one day.

MODERATE
Choose a moderate walking grade for slightly more strenuous walking on easier slopes, tracks and paths, which may be rough underfoot at times.
D - Terrain moderate
You will enjoy some reasonably energetic days walking on hills rather than mountains. Daily walks are usually from 6-10 miles and include inclines of generally between 800 and 2000ft (250 to 600m). Your average daily walking will be less than five hours, and lightweight walking boots are recommended.

C - Terrain moderate to hard
